I chose a major in college that would have multiple career path opportunities, each of which would be in demand.
I went to a community college for my first two years and got an AS degree. This allowed me to get the general education classes that almost all colleges require out of the way at a lower cost.
I then transfered to an affordable in state school to have lower tuition.
I worked hard to keep my grades up so that I could get a partial scholarship.
I now have a good and work hard to keep it and be valuable to my employer so that I get good annual reviews and get pay increases.
I don't dress like a slob.
I bathe daily.
I keep my hair clean and neatly cut.
I keep my beard trimmed and presentable.
I take responsibility for my bills and pay them.
I don't make purchases on my credit card that I can't pay.
I pay property and school taxes.
I pay income tax.
I don't have time to protest for days on end. If I did have the time due to not having a job I'd be spending that time trying to get a job instead of taking a shit on cop cars.

I'm tired of hearing that the rich don't pay their fair share. Depending on what level you use to define "rich" they pay approximately one to two thirds of all income tax in America. Drop it down to the upper half of Americans and you get 95-97% of all income tax paid depending on the quoted source.

How about the 50% of Americans that aren't paying jack shit, and in many cases are likely getting money from the system, start paying THEIR "fair share"

Tax codes need to change so that it is not possible to get a net gain when filing your income tax return. I might, just might, be ok with certain cases breaking even but that's pushing it. Additionally, when figuring someone's income things like food stamps, housing assistance, medicaid, HEAP, etc should all count towards calculating their taxable income. If obama wants to tax the employer paid portion of people's health insurance it's only fair to tax those other things.

The safety net has become a way of life for far too many, in some cases multiple generations within a family.

The 50% of non payers need to start paying, even if it's only $10/year.

And before someone says I hate poor people, I think that not being able to have a net gain when filing your taxes should apply to businesses too. We can start with taking away GE's $3.2 billion handout and charging them the normal rate on their $5 billion US operations profit.

I know 12:45AM on a Sunday night/Monday morning probably isn't all that busy normally, but you need to train the night shift stock boys to be able to open a register if it gets busy. Or if you insist on only having one cashier at least make sure it is one that knows how to scan and bag with some speed and efficiency. The line was long and moving much slower than it needed to, and with a foreigner, likely a UB student, standing in it with bad BO the slowness was even more unbearable.

As everyone should be aware of by now there was a shooting in AZ last week. The media immediately said it was due to republicans and the tea party. But as time as gone on we've found out that the shooter wasn't really into politics but likely leaned to the left. He has been bad mouthing Giffords since 2007 which is before Palin became a household name or the tea party got going. He had made multiple death threats in the past and the police did nothing, had multiple run ins with campus police and nothing happened, and multiple people have come forward claiming to have known him and saying that he seemed to be losing it yet they too did nothing.

Now to top it off one of the victims is a rabid leftist and at a town hall meeting told a tea party member "you're dead"
Luckily the police acted this time and he was arrested and involuntarily committed to a psych ward for evaluation.

All the attention is going to the City Grill shooting where eight were shot and four have died, but there were multiple other shootings this past weekend including some fatalities.
There is no easy solution but I have a couple ideas.
Mandatory minimums for possession of a gun while committing another crime. I'm thinking for a felony make it 10 years minimum and if the felony being committed already has a minimum of 10 or more years then the gun parts tacks on an additional 5. For a misdemenor where the perp directly encounters a victim (so not a case of breaking into an unoccupied car for example) the crime gets bumped to a felony with a 5 year minimum. Felon in possession (meaning a convicted felon simply possessing a gun not necessarily actively using it another crime) should be at least a 5 year minimum but I'm leaning towards 10. These times would be doubled on a second offense.
These minimums probably wouldn't change the thug culture but it would at least get them off the streets for longer amounts of time and it might make some of the less hardcore thugs decide not to use guns.

Additionally people need to wake up and realize that the so called "thug culture" is not acceptable. Parents need to get back to disciplining their kids and all levels of society need to get back to taking responsibility for their actions. Far too often someone screws up and instead of admitting they screwed up they blame everyone and everything but themselves. Having multiple children by multiple fathers, none of whom are married to the mother needs to stop and it definitely should not be rewarded through increased welfare benefits, although my welfare rant might be better served with its own post.

One excuse that is often heard is that it is due to poverty. Bullshit. I grew up outside a small town and although my school district was fairly well off with most families being comfrotably middle class or higher there were also a number of poor families. Their kids didn't act like thugs and glamorize violence. If anything the "thug lifestyle" causes the poverty not the other way around.

There is a sign on required and a username so it's easy enough to look at a poster's name and know if it is someone you know posts garbage. On the other hand people that have useful information may be less likely to comment. I once wrote a letter to the editor and it was printed. Some dude looked me up in the phone book and called me about it. WTF? Granted he agreed with me, although from what I remember he took his opinion on the subject farther than I would, but it was still creepy and caused me to not write any more letters to the editor.

I guess "anonymous sources" are fine when the media wants us to blindly accept what they write as the truth but not when the readers want to comment in return.

Once again the responsible are having to pay for the failures of the irresponsible in America. This new pork, I mean "stimulus" bill, has all sorts of increases for those that don't work. Mean while we get the laughable comment from Obama that gov't needs to stop spending what it doesn't have. Um didn't you just push Congress to pass the largest single spending bill in history?

I say fuck the banks that were dumb enough to lend to people without doing proper income checks. Fuck the people dumb enough to not know the terms of their mortgage payments. And fuck the gov't stooges that pressured banks into doing irresponsible lending.

I made sure I got a fixed rate and that I could afford it. Where's my huge bailout? Oh that's right, I was responsible so I get the reward of having to pay shit loads of taxes.

Meanwhile if you hang out at a grocery store long enough, or ask some of the employees, you'll see people buying high priced steak and lobster with their food stamps then having a case of beer and carton of cigarettes rung up separately that they pay for using cash. And don't tell me it's an urban legend, I saw it weekly when I worked at Tops for two years. Was it every food stamp user? No, but the fact that food stamps can be used for what I consider luxury food is obscene. At least wics has limits.

A couple years ago we learned NY pays more for medicaid than CA and TX combined. To top it off there were reports of medicaid being used for Viagara and other non life saving drugs. Again I have to ask WTF is wrong with this state?

I have no problem with gov't programs to help the truly disabled. But the able bodied recipients need to be forced to work for that money. Cleaning up parks and shoveling sidewalks sounds like a good start.

I don't know enough about her to make an in depth decision on her, but so far I'm liking the choice.
Patterson did the right thing in not anointing yet another Kennedy into office. Gillibrand is not a career politcian (at least not yet) but she was elected into an office, unlike Kennedy who has never been elected to public office.

She also represents a rural, or at least somewhat rural, area of NY. It's about time NY has representation from somewhere other than NYC. Hopefully she'll remember that while serving as senator.

Robert Reich wants the infrastructure stimulus to not go to whites, and Charlie Rangel wants there to be formulas for what minorities get it.

If we're talking infrastructure (or any other gov't job/contract for that matter) it should go to the best qualified company that has a proven record or high quality work at a competitive price. Race should have nothing to do with it. Promoting based on race is just as wrong as demoting based on race.

I was awakened this morning not by the engine noise of my neighbor's snow blower, which would have been bad enough seeing that it wasn't even 9am yet and Sunday is my day to sleep in, but by the sound of the snow and ice hitting my house. WTF? Common sense and courtesy would indicate it's best to repoint the shoot when going past a house so as to not hit it. When I do my drive way and go past the neighbor on that side (different neighbor than the one hitting my house) I point the shoot straight ahead and then when I get past our houses I point it into my yard not his.

I'm a pretty easy going guy, but this is the second time this guy has done this and it's pissing me off.

It's good to see them doing well even though I still think the school should focus on academics and not athletics. When I was there there was talk of library cuts while the football budget increased.

Well I've finally done it and set up my own little place to rant on the internet. I'm proud to say I still don't have a myspace or facebook page, although I keep getting invites from friends so I might have to give in and create a minimal page on those too just so I can view my friends' pages.

I've lived in Western NY my whole life and the Buffalo area for about 9 years. Lately the politicians and governments in this state have gotten to the point I feel the need to be able to rant about their complete idiocy, but this site won't just be political based nor will it only be rants.
